Cheap Redneck Deal: Rayman Legends for the Wii U

There always seem to be a few gaming franchises that rarely reduce their price and those franchises include Nintendo heroes like Mario and Zelda but another one of those high budget games that never seem to come down in price is anything with Rayman in it.  Walmart is practically giving Rayman Legends away for the Wii U at $17.  This is a great family game and supports multiple players at one time.  I say this is a must for some good gaming time with your children.  Walmart is offering in-store pickup and free store-to-store shipping if they run out at your location... Good old walmart, it's like my second home.

Cheap Redneck Deal: Batman Arkham Origins for PS3

With all of the hype being around Batman Arkham Knight we can't forget about the stories that got Batman to where he is now.  Batman Arkham Origins is the prequel to all of the other Batman Arkham games.  Toys-r-us has it on sale right now for the PS3 for $6.99 with free in-store pickup.  That's a great deal if I've ever seen one.

A List to get excited about. All of the upcoming Marvel Movies

Marvel has been making some very memorable movies the last few years and they have created a wave that they feel can keep on riding all the way up to 2020.  I know everything involving the Avengers has been gold including the two spin-off TV series Agents of Shield and Agent Carter.  Guardians of the Galaxy is another favorite for a lot of people and I believe they are going to do crazy good things with Spider-Man... but can they really keep it up?

If you're not living under a rock than you know about Ant-Man which is opening on July 17th, 2015.  It's either going to be one of the best movies Marvel has ever made or it will be a complete bust.  I'm not exactly sure but we'll be finding out in just over 2 weeks time of when this blog was written.  And this could set the tone of some of the other movies in the list that are less know.  Here they are below.

July 6, 2018: Black Panther
I'm not sure why Deadpool didn't make the list.  Maybe Disney is keeping it under wraps because the supposed R rating.

Batman Arkham Knight Harley Quinn Story Pack No Commentary

Here is the entire play-through of the Harley Quinn Story Pack in Batman Arkham Knight.  It's not very long but you can tell this girl has issues in the way she rages during the fights.

Batman Arkham Knight Joker's Cremation

Batman Arkham Knight Opening Dinner Scene No Commentary

Batman Arkham Knight opening Scarecrow Scene

Batman Arkham Knight opening Scarecrow Scene

Batman Arkham Knight Poison Ivy

Poison Ivy is very easy on the eyes Batman Arkham Knight.  You don't have to take my word for it.

Batman Arkham Knight Batmobile

In my opinion the batmobile in Batman Arkham Knight is by far the best vehicle in any game I've played.  It used to be the legendary warthog from Halo but this thing has got the warthog beat in pretty much every category.  I hope I get to drive something like this in the future.

Batman Arkham Knight Battle Mode Batmobile

The batmobile in Battle Mode is more like a tank or mech than car.  Check it out because it's very cool.

Batman Arkham Knight New Armor Batsuit

The New Batman Armor is pretty sweet.  It looks Bruce Wayne took a few upgrade tips from Tony Stark's Ironman.

The combat system has changed a bit and now Batman uses the environment such as electrical panels, lights and other items to beat up his enemies.

Redneck Review: Batman Arkham Knight

A Parents Review of Batman Arkham Knight.

First off, lets do this disclaimer thingy.  I'm not a doctor or a counselor of children in any way.  I'm just a parent from the south that loves gaming with his kids.

This review is less of a review and more of me recording the scenes in the game that some might find somewhat disturbing, questionable and sometimes cool.  Not all parents love gaming like I do and they don't always have the time to dig through videos on the internet to make judgment calls themselves.  I'm just going to give you parents some of the info along with a few quick videos to help you make your own decision whether you should allow your children to play or not.

Batman Arkham Knight is rated M for Mature.  My opinion is that not all M games are the same.  You can read more on that opinion here.

Batman isn't for everybody.  The Arkham gaming series is very dark much like the Dark Knight movies.  Right off the bat there is a scene where joker is being cremated.

Scarecrow is the main villain and likes to spray hallucinogen gases at people to make them see and experience their worse fears.  There plenty of cut-scenes like the ones below and I prefer not to let my 5 year old see them.  This scene is at the very beginning of the game right after the cremation scene above.  In this scene a Police Officer is trying to enjoy some food and a cup of coffee at the local Waffle House type establishment when another customer comes over to complain about a smoker in the corner.  So the officer walks over to confront the smoker and get's hit in the face with Scarecrow's happy gas.

There is another part later in the game dealing with this same gas and causing somebody committing suicide.

Most of the women in the game are a little over the top in the sexy department wearing cloths that are too tight and revealing.  Poison Ivy in particular looks like my cousin Marry Jo Beth but with more teeth.  Also Marry Jo has been pregnant a majority of her live and it has done a number on her body.  What I'm trying to say is Poison Ivy might be a little much for some people and she may or may-not be wearing pants.  There is something covering up her special areas below but I don't think you can technically call them underwear, I would say it's more of a tattoo.

The graphics and story are extremely amazing.  Rocksteady developed the first two Arkham game; Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.  The reins were handed off to another developer for the third installment, Arkham Origins.  A lot of critics said Arkham Origins was not the same experience as the first 2 games but I felt Arkham City was amazing.  Now Rocksteady took control again and I can see the critics' point of view.

I'll say it again, this game is amazing.  Pretty much everything in the Arkham City environment that isn't a building can be destroy.  I even ran the batmobile into huge column that was part of a building and I complete destroyed it.  Speaking of the batmobile, is has to be the coolest vehicle in any video game ever.  When at a stand still you can move the left thumb stick left or right and the car will turn the wheels sideways and spin in a circle to change directions.

If you pull the left trigger the batmobile changes into battle mode.  In battle mode the controls change into a 3rd person shooter and your vehicle turns into more of a tank or mech than a car.

And the new Batsuit Armor is pretty intense.

So, do I let my kids play this game?  My 5 year old isn't going to like the story or the cut scenes so I let him play on my account with a game that is mostly complete so he can just run around Gotham and drive the batmobile.  He is strictly supervised while he is playing to make sure he doesn't accidentally move through the plot of the story where most of the cut scenes like the above take place.

My 2 ten year old boys have free rein to it with some supervision but they generally only want to play it when I'm involved.  Needless to say, for the last couple of days I've been spending about an hour or so each evening spending time in front of the TV with my boys kicking a little bad-guy butt.

If you have any those, opinions or questions feel free to leave a comment.  Also, if there are any games you need reviewed like this one please let me know so I can know what to do next.

Not all M Rated games are the same

The ESRB is the board that rates the Electronic Software or video games much like the MPAA does with movies.  The MPAA follow a certain set of guidelines that they use to rate all moves like the "1 F-bomb" rule.  The "1 F-bomb" rule says you can us the "F" word one time and the movie can be rated PG-13, but as soon as they use that second "F" word your rating automatically becomes R.  If you didn't know about this rule you will notice it now in every PG-13 action movie from here on out.

My gripe with the ESRB rating is that Batman Arkham Knight, Halo, Fallout 3 and Skyrim have the same rating as GTA 5.  Batman and Master Chief are cool dudes for all ages in most cases.  My 5 year old's bathroom is decked out in Batman stuff but at the same time I don't think he would enjoy the Dark Knight movies.  My two 10 year old boys love to live action roll play as Master Chief.   GTA 5 has some of the worse language I've ever heard in a video game or a movie in that case.  You can go to the all nekked girly clubs and you eventually even own it.  If your live is low you can hire a date for a quick car rocking pick me up in the ally.  You can run people over or even shoot somebody in the face so you can take their car then run that person's dead body over.

What I'm trying to say is there are some M rated games out there that I do let my children play under strict supervision.  In all actuality, it the responsibility of the parent to make these decisions.

Cheap Redneck Game: $12 Plants vs. Zombie Garden Warfare for the Xbox One

Another Family Friendly game that is also an online First Person Shooter is from the creators of Plants vs. Zombies.  If you haven't heard of PvsZ then you probably don't own a smart phone or tablet.  Regardless, $12 is a great deal for this game.  I've spent several hours with my 4 year old shooting up zombies using nothing but a huge arsenal of plant bullets. The Xbox one version is split-screen capable meaning two people can play on one TV.  Please purchase this and enjoy it with your children.  Here's the link.

Cheap Redneck Deal: Disney Infinity

If you're looking for a good way to get into gaming with your children but haven't found a game you like, then Disney Infinity might be for you.  You do have to purchase a starter kit that comes with the game and a figurine base but once that is purchased you have just opened a portal to a new Disney universe.

Disney Infinity 2.0 is the current version with 3.0 coming out soon however you can bring the origninal figures into the 2.0 Disney game.  Lucky Microsoft is having a sale on a few of Disney's original Infinity Figurines. Prices and links below.

Tom Clancy's The Division's Beta Sign-Up

Ubisoft has opened up a waiting list for Xbox One players who want to be part of The Division beta when it first launches in December.

I remember seeing the first footage of The Division during the reveal of the Xbox One over a year ago and I was excited. It was perceived to be an Third Person Shooter with amazing graphics in a post apocalypse ridden New York City. Last week during E3 some lucky gamers got to take control for a quick demo. It turns out it has a lot of RPG elements to it much like Destiny regarding the gun loots that you get after each mission. There is still too little to tell because the demo was very limited.
For us Xbox One owner the Beta begins in December so jump on over to the signup site here to get in line.  The PC and Playstation Betas will begin in early 2016 but can still sign up at the same location.

Cheap Redneck Deal: Borderlands Humble Bundle

I'm not a PC person but my friends tell me when a Humble Bundle becomes available it's time to stock up on the games you don't have.

When it comes to family friendliness I will say that Borderlands is not the cleanest or most appropriate game for even your teens to play.  But finding the loot and the millions of different combinations of guns are insanely fun.  While it shares the same rating as Gears of War, M for Mature, my personal opinion on the rating is a little off.  Overall this is a great co-op game to play with your older children.  It reminds me more of a PG-13 horror comedy than a rated R gory action movie.  The language and adult humor matches that of a PG-13 movie meaning I think any child in middle school is probably going to hear worse.  Even my home-schooled children (Just kidding.)

Even thought this post is about a great deal for Borderlands on the PC it is also extremely inexpensive used at Gamestop and you can play split-screen so you don't have to have multiple copies or consoles.

Anyway.  Check out the deal at https://www.humblebundle.com/

Here are the details.
Note, minimum price of Steam Keys is $1
Minimum price of $1 includes

  • Borderlands
  • Borderlands Add-ons
    • The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned
    • Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot
    • The Secret Armory of General Knoxx
  • Borderlands 2
  • Borderlands 2 Add-ons
    • Psycho Pack
    • Mechromancer Pack
    • Creature Slaughterdome
  • Humble Store 75% off Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel coupon
If you pay a minimum of $15 you also unlock
  • Borderlands 2 Season Pass
  • Borderlands 2 Add-ons
    • Headhunter 5: Son of Crawmerax
    • Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2
    • 2K Store 25% off merchandise coupon

Cheap Redneck Deal: Gears of War Ultimate Edition

This is not a family friendly game but instead will be placed into the awesome category.  Gears of War is less about making friends and building houses and more about blow'n stuff up and curb stomping the grub.  If you're okay with Bullets, Blood and cussing than you'll love this game but please play it after the young ones go to bed.

With the exception of Halo Guardians, Microsoft seems to be taking a page out of the movie producers hand book by not creating any original content but instead just remake something they did well in the past.  I didn't need another Robocop or Total Recall because the first of these movies were more than good enough.  Kudos on Judge Dread though.  When it comes to video games it's less of a remake and more of a remaster and this 60 FPS thingy my Xbox One keeps throwing in front of face is unbelievable and makes me want to replay my old games after they've been remastered.

Another announcement at E3 this year is the remastered Gears of War and it will be called the Ultimate Edition.  Ultimately I'll be e-dishing out the the $40 pre-order price to get the game plus a $10 gift card.  Head on over to Microsoft and give them some of your money too. Buy Me.

#HuntTheTruth

For any of you hardcore Halo fans out there that have been hiding under a rock to avoid any type of spoilers leading up to the release of Halo 5 Guardians... This might not be the post for you.  #HunttheTruth is an ongoing marketing campaign building up to the release of Halo 5.

This Tumblr Microblog has been releasing weekly updates including audio archives with its final audio episode ending during the 2015  E3 conference.

Bungie, the original creator of the Halo series, always did a good job building up anticipation for the upcoming releases and 343 Industries isn't letting us down.  If you have a little extra time on your hand head to Tumblr and check it out.  http://huntthetruth.tumblr.com/

Cheap Redneck Deal

Head on over to Microsoft's online store to pre-order "Rare Replay" for $30 and receive a $10 Gift Card.

Rare Replay is an epic collection of 30 games that are mostly family friendly, at least from the titles I recognize.  I can see this being added to our collection for the sheer analysis of cost versus hours played.  Below is the list of games in the collection and here is the link for the pre-order.  http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/rare-replay

Do any of these games bring back memories for you?

The mid-Knight Launch

I've got our copy of the Dark Knight pre-ordered and I'm excited to hear that GameStop is having a midnight launch, however, I'm a responsible adult that has to be at the office at 5am tomorrow morning.  Unfortunately for me I won't get to play until tomorrow afternoon with the second group of people that weren't able to stay up until midnight.  Believe me when I say we'll be putting up some game-play footage of the "Bats" as he takes on the bad buys of Arkham.

Midnight launch details here.  Source, GameStop

So if you still haven't pre-ordered there is still time.  Get down to your local Gamestop and then return again tonight for the midnight launch.

Let's Play Lego Jurassic World Park Shutdown parts 2 and 3

And here's the rest.  I can't tell you how fun the lego games when it comes to playing as a family.  There is so much to do even after you finish the game.  You have red bricks and dinosaurs to collect, characters and vehicles to buy.  It takes a lot of time to get to 100% complete.  And it's fun for the parents as much as it is the kids.

Let's Play Lego Jurassic World Park Shutdown part 1

Playing with my Kiddos is too much fun and I have to share it with the world.

Metroid anyone?

Any of you old-school gamers out there like Metroid and want a little more of the action?  We'll Announced at E3 2015 Metroid Prime: Federation Force will bring you back to the olden days... well not too far.  Metroid Prime was more of a third person shooter and not the good side scrolling Metroid we all knew and loved.  Regardless, it will be intresting to see how Nintendo does with this 3DS game that comes out sometime in 2016.

With Metroid Prime: Federation Force players will be able to play 4 player co-op missions and other multiplayer battles.  See the trailer below.

New Releases This Week, June 22 2015

The big new release this week is Batman Arkham Knight being released on June 23.  One of the reason we needed to finally break down and get a next gen console is because Arkham Knight will not be released on the 360.

Once we start playing this game every boy in our house will be Batman crazed including myself.  Even my 4 year old loves this game though we have to turn the volume down a bit.  Batman has never been known to use guns in the past and his excessive violence never leads to death but the game itself generally have some PG-13 language.  Overall it would have to safe it's not a family friendly game however I watch over my children like hawks with games like this.  Also, I'll play through it before them so I know what to be looking for and at what point during the story line.

If you pre-order Arkham Knight today at Gamestop you will receive Red Hood as a playable character and you also get to play as Harley Quinn with exclusive Challenge Maps.

Now that Arkham Knight has stolen the spotlight here are the other publications that have the unfortunate timing of being release in Batman's shadow.

Batman: Arkham Knight (Xbox One, PS4, PC) - June 23
Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition (Xbox One, PS4, PC) - June 23
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward (PS4, PS3, PC) - June 23Planetside 2 (PS4) - June 23
Ride (Xbox One, 360, PS4, PS3, PC) - June 23
Art Academy: Home Studio (Wii U) - June 25

Are you ready to soil your plants again?

Plants vs. Zombies is by far one of the best family friendly first person shooters that was designed with children in mind in the from the ground up.  This team fortress type first person shooter was a huge hit it in our casa.

Exciting news was just announced that there will be a sequel.  The only thing that is really known about it right now is what you can see in the announcment trailer.

We purchased the first one the day it was released for the Xbox 360 and I was a little disappointed to find that you could only play splits screen (multiple people on one TV) on the Xbox One version.  We shouldn't have that problem anymore.

Take a look and stay tune for more news of this up coming family title.

Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 announcement trailer:

Lego Jurassic World Nerdy Disguises Red Brick

Blindly finding Red Bricks and we come up with the Nerdy Disguises.  We haven't purchased it yet I can't wait to see what it looks like.

Lego Jurassic World How to get Indominus Rex

Before you can get the Stud Score Multiplier x10 you have to get the Indominus Rex and here is a video showing you how to do it.  But first, I most apologize.  I received a new gaming headset for recording as an early Father's Day gift and I had the mic muted.  So you will be able to here Levi talking and myself rambling with Logan in the background.  Regardless, you'll understand what's going on in the video.  The point is to shoot the 3 targets to the left side of the stage.  It took us a few minutes to figure it out but we eventually did.  Once you get the Indominus Rex you can look here to see were and how to get the x10 red brick.

father's day number ONE surprise

Must I say it or can I let the picture tell the story?

If you haven't guessed it, the above picture is telling a story of excitement.  Also, I have the coolest most bestest wife in the world.  My early Father's Day present was a White Xbox One Master Chief Edition.  Generally we don't spend a lot of money on each other when it comes to gifts but we've been holding out on the Xbox One for a while.  We were going to wait until it came to a point that the publisher stopped making the AAA games we wanted for the 360.  Unfortunately that time is coming and with Halo 5 right around the corner we have to start gearing up for the fun to come.

I know some parents may think video games are a waist of money but in our house hold we get more value out of our games than pretty much any other purchase.  Myself and the kids will sometimes get lost in the games by ourselves but 95% of the time our gaming is done together and with a lot of noise and enthusiasm.  It's a way for us to spend time with each other much like some family like camping.  Don't get me wrong, it's important to get outside too just understand there are plenty of ways to have fun with your kids.

Hear is my advice to any parent that used to be into Atari, Sega or Nintendo's Mario Brothers, Metroid and Zelda.  If you have a child that likes gaming and you think it's a waist of time, do your best to get into the games they like because chances are you'll fall in love with the activity too, especially the time spent with them.

Lego Jurassic World Stud Score Multiplier x10

Ok, so I got a really cool video gaming headset for an early Father's Day present and I quickly went to record 2 videos with my older boys Levi and Logan.  After recording both videos I realized I had the mic on mute the entire time.  Oh well.

We still have the video and half of the audio.  You can hear Levi clearly while Logan and I are muffled in the background.  It might just be best to turn the volume down.  Anyway, here is the video to get the x10 Red Brick.  The prerequisite for this brick is having the Indominus Rex and that post is located here.

Everything's Inside Out

If you have a little extra money and time this weekend, get off your back sides and celebrate Father's Day by taking your family to see Disney-Pixar's new movie "Inside Out".  There won't be a dad in the house that doesn't come down with a sudden bout of the allergies.  I know something stirred up my sinuses a little. (If my kids ask, I wasn't crying)

Every time I see a Disney movie I leave the theater feeling that was the best movie they have ever made and that there is no way they'll be able to top it.  Inside Out was no exception to this "best Disney movie Ever" feeling.  It is great for all ages.  My 4 year old yelled, "That was great" when walking out and my 2 ten year old boys couldn't stop talking about it on the way home.

The story is based around this little girl Riley and her emotions.  When a sudden change in her life causes everything to go out of control her emotions have to go on a serious but fun journey to get things back to the way they were.  I won't say anymore but please consider this movie over the weekend if you can.

Have a great Father's Day weekend.  My has already started.

Lego Jurassic World Stud Score Multiplier x8

Here is how to get the Stud Score Multiplier x8 Red Brick.  Nothing too special needed to grab this.  You just need to know where to look.  I hope this helps.

Something to mention about these red bricks.  When you obtain them you can turn multiple multipliers on at the same time so if you combine the x2 and x4 red brick you have x8.  So for ever stud you pick up it's worth 8 times the amount.  The numbers get extremely high the with the more multipliers you apply.  Before you know it you'll have so much money you won't be able to spend it all.

Halo 5 Guardians Collector's Edition Staute

With the release of each Halo game a few different version are offered that give you specific upgrades that the fans love and Halo 5 is no exception.  In the past the collector's edition generally offers a cool box, behind the scenes disks, movies or shorts, and a statue.  A picture of Halo 5's Collector's edition has just been revealed.

It's a bit costly at $250 but the statue is glorious and features both Master Chief and Agent Locke.  It's extremely cool but I'm not sure it's cool enough for the $250 price tag.

What do you think?
